Aomori translated to “Land of Blue Pines” is situated just south of Hokkaido. Originally a seaport in the Edo period, Aomori has an active history of developing yeast & sake rice going back to 1952.
Since the 1970s, Aomori has developed sake rice that can withstand the prefecture’s cold climate. Local strains like Hanafubuki & Hanaomoi (a cross between Hanafubuki & Yamadanishiki) are very popular among brewers as they produce sakes with deeper taste.
Many of the breweries are focused on local consumption as the flavour of the sakes suit the local cuisine very well. Exported sakes are rare, however, we are able to procure a few excellent sakes for your drinking pleasure!
