Gifu is located (almost) in the center of Japan, and the source of the Nagara River, one of three most clear flowing rivers in Japan. It is landlocked to the north by the Hida Region with mountain ranges with peaks exceeding 3,000 meters above sea levels, the the Mino region in the south, the opens into Nobi Plain. Such diverse altitude in Gifu leads to a large difference in climate and temperature. In a broad sense, Gifu has two main styles, drier sake from the north, and a story, sweeter style produced in the south.
